Mixed Americano: one player from each group in every pair

Last updated 27 Oct 2026 · 3 min read

A Mixed Americano splits the players into two groups, usually women and men, and every pair is one player from each group. Partners still change every round, and each player keeps their own points. You need the same number of players in both groups, at least two per group for each court you use.

What is a Mixed Americano?

It is an Americano with one extra rule: every pair is one player from Group A and one from Group B. Most groups use it for mixed doubles, one woman and one man per pair, but any two groups work. Partners still change every round, and each player keeps the points their side scores.

What do you need?

Two groups of the same size, with at least two players from each group per court. Bigger groups work too, for example 4 and 4 on one court or 8 and 8 on two, with the extras resting in turn.

How does the draw stay fair?

Rests are chosen inside each group and go round it in turn, so every court always has two players from each group. Each Group A player partners as many Group B players as the rounds allow.

How do standings work?

Players are ranked as individuals. For a winner in each group too, read the table for each group on its own.

What are the limits?

The groups must be equal at the start, and everyone should be there, because late arrivals are hard to fit into a mixed draw. If a player leaves mid-evening, the app uses fewer courts rather than break the one-from-each-group rule.

Next: ending your evening with a final or semi-finals.

Questions people ask

What is a Mixed Americano in padel?

An Americano where every pair is one player from each of two groups, usually one woman and one man. Partners still rotate every round and each player keeps their own points.

Do you need equal numbers for a Mixed Americano?

Yes, at least to start. Each court needs two players from each group, so the two groups should be the same size.

How are the standings shown in a Mixed Americano?

Players are ranked as individuals, as in any Americano. Many groups also look at the table for each group on its own, so the best player in each group can be named.

Can two players from the same group partner in a Mixed Americano?

No. That is the one rule of the format. Every pair has one player from each group, and the draw only ever pairs them that way.
